With a new year comes new Colors of the Year, and many major paint brands have already announced theirs for 2024. For 2023, many of the Colors of the Year were warmer tones, including pinks, reds, and beiges, but going into 2024, there are lots of calming and relaxed tones, including blues, olive greens, and blacks.
Let’s dive into a few of the 2024 Colors of the Year and discuss how to incorporate them into your home.
Behr: Cracked Pepper
A moody and versatile soft black hue
Cracked pepper is a dark shade that trends away from the classic creams and whites we’ve seen. While black is a dramatic color that often turns people away, this hue is neutral enough to encourage homeowners to try an edgier color that makes a statement and elevates a space.
How To Incorporate It:
- In your home office, to promote a calming and peaceful work environment
- In your kitchen (think two-toned cabinets or a dramatic center island)
- In your dining room, as a dramatic accent wall
Sherwin-Williams: Upward
A blissful, coastal-inspired light blue
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is Upward, which is said to be one of the most anticipated paint color trends of the year. Upward shifts away from many of the earthtone neutrals we’ve been seeing and is super versatile with different home design styles and furniture pieces. How To Incorporate It:
- In your bathroom to brighten it up without resorting to white
- In your bedroom to add color without going too crazy
- In your foyer to create a welcoming vibe from the moment you walk inside
Valspar: Renew Blue
A soothing and classic blue with green undertones
Going along with the blue trend, Renew Blue is a beautiful greenish-blue hue that’s refreshing, uplifting, and pleasing to the eye. It’s the perfect mix of blue and green, making it easy to match with other colors and a great color to add to your home without overdoing it.
How To Incorporate It:
- For your front door or shutters outside (the green undertones work to complement nature)
- In your living room as a way to elevate the room
- In your bedrooms, as a pop of color on the closets or an accent wall
Benjamin Moore: Blue Nova
A unique and intriguing blue and violet hue
What’s different about Blue Nova as opposed to the other blue colors is it’s a much deeper blue and violet hue inspired by new stars formed in space. Andrea Magno, the color marketing and development director at Benjamin Moore, says the color is “an alluring mid-tone that balances depth and intrigue with classic appeal and reassurance.”
How To Incorporate It:
- Paint an entire room (it’s a statement color, but not so dramatic that it’s overdone)
- Highlight architectural features in your home (think fireplaces, crown molding, etc.)
- In your foyer or dining room
